Where is Maine High Adventure:
Although your trek will lead your crew into the vast back country of Northern Maine, your initial destination is our base camp operation - Matagamon High Adventure Base, which is located at the northeast corner of Baxter State Park on Grand Lake Matagamon, 27 miles northwest of Patten, Maine, and 37 miles off of Interstate 95.

Crew Size: 7 to 11 including adults (12 or more  requires multiple crews)
Adult Leadership: one leader 21 or over required while at MHA, two usually required while traveling in route to/from MHA. Co-ed crews require one male and one female leader at least 21 years old.


Minimum age: 13 before September 1st of the year of participation.

Trip Length: 8 or more days offers the most flexibility in trip planning. 7 to 8 day trips are average. 6 days is the minimum. There is no maximum length of stay.


Arrival and Departure: Can occur on any day of the week as long as it fits into the schedule.
First Paid Day: Arrival Day (Plan to arrive between 8 and 9 am)
Last Paid Day: Day your crew comes off the trail. We provide dinner, showers, and tent
lodging that night.
Departure: Usually takes place the morning after your last paid day.

FINANCIAL AND BOOKING DETAILS:

Cost: Cost is based on number of people and length of trip. Please go to printable
reservation information for current MHA fees.
Fee includes: all trail equipment, all trail food, trained MHA guide accompaniment,
and 350 miles of ground transport to/from trailheads and put-in/pull-out points.
To Book your Trip: Reservations are taken on a first come, first served basis. Call or email MHA to check space availability for desired dates. After MHA confirms availability, telephone or email reservations will be held for 10 days pending receipt of crew reservation from and deposit.

Deposit: A $500 deposit, per crew, is required. This deposit is NON-REFUNDABLE and applies toward the total MHA fee. All Groups should contact the MHA office at  1-207-949-5260 or email at MHAinfo@bsamail.org prior to booking the trip. A payment of half the balance is due by Febrauary 1st. Crew booking their trips after February 1st are expected to make the half-balance payment within 30 days of their deposit.

Final Payment: The final half-balance payment is due by May 1st. This payment will be adjusted to reflect any change in crew size. 

Planning materials: After receipt of the reservation form and deposit, the crew Advisor-of-Record will receive an Acknowledgement Packet with sample documents and other information related to planning for the upcoming expedition. After receipt of the 1st Half-Balance payment, the Advisor-of Record will receive the Prep Kit containing participant manuals and medical forms for each crew member, and additional preparation materials for the trip.


POTENTIAL ADDITIONAL COSTS:

These are cost that not originally covered in the deposit or final payment:
* Cost of travel to/from MHA
* Lodging or camping arrangements for night prior to MHA arrival
* User fees and any extra transportation (over the 350 miles included) incurred during the trip planning on arrival day.
* Fishing licenses
* Float plane option during trek
* 8x10 color crew photo
* Lost or damaged trail equipment
* Due to Unstable gas prices, MHA reserves the right to add a reasonable, one - time, fuel surcharge if deemed necessary.

These cost occur for some of the trips, but not all. We suggest crews budget in at least $75-$85 per person to cover these potential costs.


CANCELLATION POLICY:
Crews canceling or shortening their trip after May 1, will be penalized $200.00 per day.
